Entreled, our Erasmus+ project is in progress. Incorporating circular economy principles into its framework, Entreled aims to equip VET learners with learning difficulties with the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed professionally in a circular economy. But what is the circular economy model and why is its adoption becoming increasingly important?
As the world grapples with environmental challenges, the concept of the circular economy has emerged as a crucial pathway toward sustainability. Unlike the traditional linear economy, which follows a “take-make-dispose” model, the circular economy aims to create a closed-loop system where products and materials are continuously reused, remanufactured, and recycled. This approach significantly reduces waste, conserves natural resources, and mitigates environmental degradation.
The circular economy also presents vast opportunities for economic growth and innovation. Transitioning to circular business models, such as product-as-a-service, allows companies to generate new revenue streams while fostering innovation in product design and sustainability practices. These models shift the focus from ownership to usage, encouraging companies to prioritize performance and longevity in their products.
Furthermore, the adoption of a circular economy requires a collaborative effort across various sectors, including government, industry, academia, and civil society. Policy interventions, such as extended producer responsibility and incentives for eco-friendly design, can create a supportive framework that encourages businesses to embrace circular practices.
