The aim of the project is to train professional and non-professional caregivers of people who suffer from dementia. The training is based on the method of Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST).

Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST)

Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST) is a methodology, proven to help people who have mild to medium dementia. The method was developed by the University of Central London (UCL) and now utilised by many countries.

It is one of the existing interventions with the aim to support people with dementia to improve their memory and thinking skills and to cope with memory loss. Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST) is the best approach for improving cognitive skills for people with dementia. Cognitive skills are the skills the brain uses to think, learn, remember, problem solve and communicate.

Actions developed and next steps

Project partners have already developed a training course for trainers on issues related to the training of caregivers of people with dementia on Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST). The course is ready in English and will be translated by the end of May 2021 in Greek, Italian, Danish and Spanish.

The next step is the creation of a training course for professional and non-professional caregivers of people with dementia, which will focus on issues related to the care of people with dementia, the various methods that can be used, with emphasis on Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST) and the creation of an environment friendly to people with dementia.
