Through the MICROIDEA project, we are contributing to a European effort that supports the recognition of professional skills, employability and more flexible learning pathways. The project focuses on micro-credentials as a practical way to assess, validate and recognise competences that respond to real labour market needs.
MICROIDEA has now reached an important milestone. The MICROIDEA Certification Scheme for Professional Waiters has been included in the accredited scope of TÜV AUSTRIA Hellas, in line with the international standard ISO/IEC 17024.
This is an important step for the project and for the wider use of micro-credentials in vocational education and training. It shows how specific professional skills can be recognised through a structured, transparent and reliable certification process.
The scheme focuses on real tasks in the tourism and hospitality sector. These include customer service, food and beverage service, reservations, payments, green cleaning practices, environmental protection, digital tools, English terminology, wine service and other practical competences.
For MICROIDEA, this milestone is not only about one profession. It is about testing a methodology that can make micro-credentials more trusted, more transferable and more useful across countries, employers and education and training systems.
This matters because many learners, workers and job seekers need flexible ways to prove what they know and what they can do. At the same time, employers and VET providers need clearer tools to identify and recognise skills that match real sector needs.
The tourism and hospitality sector is a strong example. It is a key sector for many European economies, but it also faces skills gaps and a strong need for recognised, practical and transferable competences. MICROIDEA responds to this need by connecting micro-credentials with labour market demand and quality assurance.
As dissemination leader of the project, p-consulting.gr supports the communication and promotion of MICROIDEA results across Europe. For us, this milestone is a clear example of how EU projects can make a difference when their outcomes are practical, relevant and ready to be used.
Following this achievement, MICROIDEA partners are moving forward with the organisation of examinations in the three piloting countries. This next phase will test the certification scheme in practice and provide valuable evidence on how micro-credentials can support employability, inclusion and skills mobility in Europe.
