Later Life Preparation – When does one start?
The current global demographic changes are equally influenced by various socioeconomic aspects of modern lifestyle and have led or are consequence of increment in life expectancy’s ratio, at least, in the so-called western world. When in one’s thirties, forties or even fifties, one may not think about or reflect upon retirement and planning for Later Life. Most of modern adults in these age groups, either start families, change career courses, pursuit new academic fields and orientations, etc., due to multiple social or personal demands.
Few contemplate and even plan or prepare for Later Life arrival. But seriously, when is the right time to start? Is there such a thing as the right time? If any of you are wondering, just read further…
The project SenQuality
To begin answering the question posed, we introduce SenQuality, which is an Erasmus+ project implemented by various organizations from Germany, Greece, Spain, Italy, Cyprus, Slovenia, and Poland, including p-consulting.gr. One of the project’s objectives is to raise public awareness of issues related to Later Life planning and to promote the concept of active ageing.
Project’s Practical Guide for Later Life preparation
The project’s partners have already implemented relevant research, produced, and made available through its website, a practical guide to facilitate proactive adults concerned about the matter and promote and/or raise awareness to those who are interested, but do not know where or when to start. The research and study resulted in 9 different life’s domains, which are essential when considering planning for Later life, such as:
- Emergencies and exceptional circumstances
- Mental and physical fitness
- Looks and appearance
- Social relationships
- Leisure activities and lifestyle
- Work and employment
Each one of these domains, come with practical support on how to take concrete steps for a fulfilled Later life, in addition to some more generic advice on planning and decision making. There is also an annex available comprising a summary of the research results conducted with participation of 125 people, in which experiences regarding Later life preparation are documented and shared. Preparing and planning for Later life has no right or wrong time, a right or wrong starting point. It is mainly personal, and SenQuality project aims at giving everybody their own starting point at their own pace!!
