Although these changes are\u00a0at a very large percentage acceptable at our daily routine, enthusiasm is mitigated when these changes relate to the industry and labour market.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #115dc5;\">Automation<\/span><\/strong>, which new technologies have already begun to offer, will <strong>change <\/strong>the way we used to work and will abolish older labor models. Changes in a\u00a0great\u00a0number of traditional and non-occupational professions, have already created a great deal of <strong>discontent <\/strong>and <strong>insecurity<\/strong>\u00a0in\u00a0workplace.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Everything\u00a0around us is changing&#8230;<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to a recent pan-European survey carried out by the <em>European Agency for the Development of Vocational Training<\/em> <span style=\"color: #115dc5;\"><a style=\"color: #115dc5;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cedefop.europa.eu\/el\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>CEDEFOP<\/strong><\/a><\/span>, 43% of adult European workers have seen significant changes in their daily work. Similarly, 47% of workers noticed overwhelming changes in their working methods or practices.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Differences<\/strong>, as we could imagine, have occurred more extensively in sectors such as <strong>new information technology<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>communication<\/strong> and less in sectors such as <strong>tourism<\/strong> and <strong>catering<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Substitution, Transformation, Creation<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Perhaps the most important thing that needs to be emphasized, is the way\u00a0that these changes are taking place. When we talk about how new technologies and automation are changing jobs, we usually mean that technology either <span style=\"color: #115dc5;\"><strong>substituting<\/strong><\/span>, <span style=\"color: #115dc5;\"><strong>transforming<\/strong><\/span>, or <span style=\"color: #115dc5;\"><strong>creating<\/strong> <\/span>new jobs.<\/p>\n<h4>Substituting<\/h4>\n<p>Substitution is the one cause that creates the biggest concern, and may cause a significant polarization in the labor market, between the skilled and the less well-trained workers.<\/p>\n<h4>Transforming<\/h4>\n<p>However, the criteria with which we are trying to predict changes in workplaces are not stable. A job loss most of the times, creates another new in demands and techniques job position.<\/p>\n<h4>Creating<\/h4>\n<p>Change has the most positive sign in the future of employment. With technological progress, many jobs are being created and the working conditions are changing positevely.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-16906 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/www.p-consulting.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Thomas_Malthus-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Thomas_Malthus\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.p-consulting.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Thomas_Malthus-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.p-consulting.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Thomas_Malthus-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.p-consulting.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Thomas_Malthus.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #115dc5;\">Substitution<\/span> <\/strong>is the one that worries workers the most, especially those who are not familiar with new technologies. Of course, the fears of replacing the workforce by machines are not new, but so far technological changes have proven to\u00a0have a positive sign in the evolution of work. The most typical example of this positive change is agricultural production with the advent of agricultural machinery. Who also forgets\u00a0<strong><span style=\"color: #115dc5;\"><a style=\"color: #115dc5;\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Thomas_Robert_Malthus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Thomas Malthus<\/a><\/span><\/strong>, who pessimistically predicted that the increase of the population and life expectancy would have devastating effects. Of course, the industrial revolution has prooved him wrong, as food prices have fallen, and new wealth creation sites have been created, strengthening the middle class in Europe.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The changes that are at on the way, differ greatly from those of the past. Developments in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.p-consulting.gr\/en\/big-data\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"color: #115dc5;\"><strong>Big Data<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, <strong><span style=\"color: #115dc5;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nanotechnology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nanotechnology<\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.p-consulting.gr\/en\/industry-4-0\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"color: #115dc5;\"><strong>Internet Of Things<\/strong><\/span><\/a> are changing both work patterns and product and service modeling.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Of course, <span style=\"color: #115dc5;\"><strong>substitution<\/strong> <\/span>is not a one-way street, since both in <span style=\"color: #115dc5;\"><strong>transformation<\/strong> <\/span>and in the <span style=\"color: #115dc5;\"><strong>creation<\/strong> <\/span>of new jobs, working conditions can change for the better. Transforming a person&#8217;s work position can be positive:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">By moving a worker from a<strong> high-risk<\/strong> position (handling dangerous materials), to the position of a robot operator who will do this unhealthy work, we have a <span style=\"color: #115dc5;\"><strong>replacement<\/strong><\/span>. Along with the <span style=\"color: #115dc5;\"><strong>transformation<\/strong><\/span>, we also have the <span style=\"color: #115dc5;\"><strong>creation<\/strong> <\/span>of a new job: the person who manufactures the robot.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The main problem we have to face is the lack of <strong>skills<\/strong> and the <strong>technological gap<\/strong> created by the inability to follow up and adapt to the rapid technological changes. The <strong>lack of skills<\/strong> and the inability to properly educate workers in order to acquire the necessary knowledge (foreign languages knowledge, use of computers, software, etc.)\u00a0and\u00a0 accompany their work is what should be addressed immediately.<\/p>\n<h3><u><\/u>The future of the labour market<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Technological skills, of course, are not a panacea. People are the ones who\u00a0can leverage the speed and precision of the technological tools, with the proper handling and the power of human thinking.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Developments in technology that have already begun to <strong>change\u00a0<\/strong>the world for decades, it is not feasible or desirable to be avoided. The <strong>human factor<\/strong> is the one who have to decide how, and\u00a0which way should <strong>people<\/strong> and &#8220;<strong>machines<\/strong>&#8221; coexist.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><u><\/u>With the right education and proper preparation, humanity will experience unprecedented changes at the least \u00a0possible cost!<\/h4>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><strong>E.L.\u00a0&amp;\u00a0A.P<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>People, machines, robots and skills When technology is evolving rapidly across the spectrum of society, changes in the way\u00a0we live, or how we work are inevitable.
