Youth Unemployment in Greece

The economic crisis in Greece during the last years has highly deteriorate the unemployment rate in the country. Unfortunately it has affected mostly the younger ages. Particularly, in 2013 the unemployment rate in the age group of 15-24 was 64.0%, while in the age group of 25-44 the rate was 34.7% and in the age group of 45-65 the rate was 14.3%. The following diagram shows the unemployment rate over time, between group ages.

The dramatic effects of unemployment in younger people are obvious. According to many surveys, young people who are unemployed for long time, tend to earn low wages in their whole life. They tend to have psychological problems, and they are leaded to poverty and even to illegal actions. 7 out of 10 young people in Greece want to migrate to abroad in order to have a better quality of life.
