Digital Educational Games: A New Tool Coming Soon in the FOCUS Project

In recent years, the use of digital games in education has emerged as one of the most effective ways of learning. Within the framework of the FOCUS project, in just a few months six digital educational games will be presented, specially designed for children aged 6 to 12 with learning difficulties. Each game will target a different skill that is often underdeveloped in these children and can be used in the classroom as a supplementary teaching tool. However, the value of these games is not limited to students with learning difficulties. As we anticipate their arrival, let us explore how they can prove highly beneficial for all children learning a foreign language.

One of the main advantages of digital educational games is that they motivate children through fun. When learning is connected to play, students feel less stressed, participate more actively, and are more willing to make mistakes and learn from them. This is especially important in foreign language learning, where repetition, interaction, and self-correction are key to progress.

Moreover, digital games offer the possibility of personalization. Each student can play at their own pace, repeat as many times as needed, and adapt their learning experience according to their individual needs. For children with learning difficulties, this is crucial, as they are given the time and space to consolidate material without feeling left behind their classmates. On the other hand, children who advance more quickly can move on to more demanding levels, thus reinforcing their motivation.

Educational games also foster collaboration in the classroom. Even when a game is played individually, the experience can be discussed, shared, and used in group activities. In this way, interaction, idea-sharing, and social learning are cultivated—elements that are essential for acquiring a new language.

Finally, we should not forget the multisensory character of these tools. Games combine visuals, sound, movement, and immediate feedback, offering a holistic learning experience. This helps all students retain vocabulary and language structures more effectively, while also making the learning process more vivid and engaging.

With the digital educational games being developed by FOCUS, a new path opens for language teaching. A path where learning becomes play, diversity finds its place, and every child has the opportunity to succeed. Stay tuned to discover the new FOCUS educational games soon and try them out in your classroom!
