The piloting of training program of the Erasmus+ project SCORE “Developing the Skills of Community & Health Workers Working with Refugees” is completed in Greece. The aim of the educational program was to increase the skills of health professionals and community workers in approaching and working with immigrants. The educational program of health professionals and community workers for the support of refugees/immigrants was implemented from 27 January 2020 until 29 May 2020. In the framework of the program, two meetings World Café were planned, but due to the conditions, the program was implemented exclusively by distance learning method.
SCORE’s Project partners in Greece
The lead partner of the project is the University of Patras and p-consulting.gr contributes as project partner in Greece. University of Patras has undertaken the trainers and the writing of educational content. P-consulting.gr, as an IT company, has undertaken the design and the implementation of educational platform in all partners’ languages (and of course the piloting in Greece). The online platform is an open free online platform, comprehensive, easy to users and with the ability of managing a large number of users.
The trainers of the piloting
The coordinator of the educational program was Prof. Apostolos Vantarakis (Professor of the University of Patras/Medical Department, Coordinator of the project SCORE). The trainers of the program were Mrs. Christina Malfa, social worker, Mrs. Konstantina Tsintoni, social worker, Mrs. Georgia Konstantopoulou, cognitive psychotherapist, Mrs. Karolina Akinosoglou, Ass. Professor, Medical Doctor and Mrs. Melina Avagianou, psychologist.
The trainees
The trainees were community workers, health professionals (doctors, nurses), members of NGOs, students at medical education and volunteers. The applications of participants exceeded every expectation, as 138 people were interested in participating the program. The educational material on the online platform consists of the following modules:
- Legal framework – Social inclusion/integration
- Vulnerable groups in immigrants
- Introduction to Mental and Physical Health of immigrants
- Specific Section for Health Professionals and Community Workers
The refugees and the immigrants need support to integrate in the society and SCORE contributes in this.
