The ultimate goal of the GreenVET project is to pave the way for Vocational Education and Training (VET) schools to adopt practices aligned with the Green Deal and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the European Union. As we aim to bring all VET schools across Europe, and beyond, on this journey, we have begun with specific VET schools collaborating with the partnership companies.
Our collaboration with these VET schools will assist in reshaping their operations and curricula to become more environmentally friendly. To achieve this, we developed an extensive questionnaire that has been distributed to the administrative and teaching staff, as well as students from each participating school, to identify gaps in specific operational areas. Based on the responses, a tailored action plan will be created for each school, aiming to “transform” them into “green” institutions that contribute significantly to environmental protection.
The questionnaire includes questions regarding participants’ level of knowledge about the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, the extent of their involvement with these goals, and how well the goals are reflected in the operations and teaching at their respective VET schools. It then follows up with questions about ecological sustainability and how environmental protection is projected or promoted across various aspects of the educational institution. Finally, the questionnaire concludes by giving participants the opportunity to suggest ways their school could promote ecological sustainability, taking into account individual proposals from students that may be integrated into the final action plan.
Once the deadline for completing the questionnaire has passed and the environmental gaps of the VET schools have been identified, two online workshops will be held (in October 2024 and Spring 2025) along with a three-day face to face learning workshop in Espoo, Finland. During these events, two participants from each school will not only have the opportunity to learn about environmental sustainability but also to build connections with their colleagues across Europe and exchange ideas.
The questionnaire has been available online to participating VET schools since June 2024.
Through the GreenVET project, we aim to make VET schools agents of the change we wish to see in environmental sustainability. The responsibility for the environmental future of the next generations falls on the shoulders of the future workforce. Therefore, it is our responsibility to prepare them for the environmental challenges they will need to address in their future careers.
Stay tuned for exciting updates from GreenVET.
