Over the past six months, our GreenVET consortium has been diligently working to produce high-quality educational resources for Vocational Education and Training (VET) schools, with a focus on sustainability. We are thrilled to announce that these efforts have culminated in the creation of a pivotal document, the GreenVET Framework.
The GreenVET Framework is a comprehensive guide aimed at integrating sustainability into vocational education and training. It supports VET schools across Europe in aligning their operations and teaching with the goals of the European Green Deal and broader sustainability efforts. Developed as part of our Erasmus+ project, it aims to foster a “Whole Institution Approach” to sustainability, meaning that all aspects of VET institutions, from curriculum to community engagement, should embrace green practices.
The framework consists of five key modules:
- European Green Deal and VET: This module helps educators understand the implications of the European Green Deal for VET institutions, emphasizing the importance of preparing students for jobs in green sectors.
- Education for Sustainable Development (ESD): Focused on the United Nations’ Agenda 2030, this module addresses how to incorporate ESD principles into VET, promoting skills that support sustainable development.
- Green Competencies: This section introduces the concept of green skills and competencies, encouraging the integration of sustainability into vocational training programs.
- Whole Institution Approach: This module emphasizes the need for VET schools to adopt a holistic approach, ensuring that sustainability permeates every aspect of the institution’s culture, operations, and teaching methods.
- GreenVET Database: A resource-sharing tool where VET actors can access and contribute materials relevant to greening VET institutions, supporting a collaborative learning environment.
Through these modules, the framework not only provides theoretical knowledge but also practical tools and examples from the VET sector, making it easier for educators to implement sustainable practices. The ultimate goal is to create a new generation of professionals equipped with the skills needed to thrive in a green economy.
